KCMBA is currently accepting applications for their perennial Ross T. Roberts Trial Academy. The Academy is a great way for new litigators to hone their skills under the guidance of tremendous practitioners and judges who provide positive feedback and constructive criticism. Ross T. Roberts Trial Academy
The annual program is composed of three components: (1) a CLE luncheon series; (2) training “prep” sessions; and (3) performance sessions. The CLE luncheons are held monthly at the Charles E. Whittaker Courthouse and focus on practical skills such as depositions, pre-trial motion practice, jury instructions and ethics. United States Magistrate Judge Robert E. Larsen leads the prep sessions and covers the six major components of a trial: Voir dire, opening statements, evidentiary foundations, direct and cross-examination , expert witnesses (using actual FBI agent witnesses), and closing arguments.

Position Summary

The Legal Intern for Sporting Kansas City provides assistance to the Legal Team by helping with research, drafting and editing, as well as learns about the contract process, negotiations, risk management and other legal issues surrounding a professional sports team.

Essential Functions

Assist the Legal Team with various administrative functions, day-to-day tasks, and project management.
Research and analyze legal authority such as statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles, and case law.
Assist in preparing legal documents including, but not limited to, briefs, memorandums, contracts, letters, and various types of agreements.
Provide general assistance to the Legal Team in proofreading, editing and analyzing contracts.
File correspondence and legal documents in the applicable filing systems.
Represent Sporting Kansas City and its related affiliates in a professional manner at all times.
Perform other related tasks as assigned.
